Virginia - Hospice

The most common end-of-life care option is hospice. Hospice is a comprehensive support for individuals with a life-limiting illness, and it provides support to the entire family. The goal of hospice care is to offer palliative medical care, or pain management, and to address the emotional and spiritual aspects of end-of-life with compassion and dignity. Individuals with a prognosis of 6 months or less are able to receive hospice care. An individual can receive hospice services at home, in a nursing home, or in a hospice care center. Hospice provides a multidisciplinary team made up of a doctor, nurse, social worker, chaplain, certified nursing assistant and home health aides. Families are offered grief counseling and support groups while their loved one is ill and up to one year following their loved one's passing.
