Are your kids bored with playing the same old soccer game? Try tossing a Frisbee! The plastic disc adds a twist to familiar games, develops gross motor skills and burns extra energy.
These 15 Frisbee games and activities are great ideas for you to play with the kids.
1. Frisbee flip
This PE Games activity has kids pairing off and picking “top” or “bottom” of the Frisbee. Flip the disc in the air as you would a coin. As soon as it lands, the player whose side is facing up must run to a predetermined spot. The other player must try to catch them before they reach it.
2. Water transport race
Fill the Frisbee with water and race toward the finish line in this game from Youthwork Practice. But be careful! Move too fast and you’ll spill the water.
3. KanJam Frisbee game
This four-player game requires only a few Frisbees and a couple of cans or large boxes. In two teams, players try to throw their Frisbees into the opposite garbage can. Other players on your team can deflect the Frisbee while it’s still in the air to try to get it to land in the can. If you just hit the can, you get one point. If your team deflects the Frisbee into the can, you get two points. If you throw your Frisbee into the can yourself, you get three points. First to 20 points wins!
4. Hula hoop Frisbee throw
For this game from Education World, hang four hula hoops from a tree. Each player gets five chances to throw a Frisbee through one of the hoops. Earn a point each time a Frisbee goes through the hoop.
5. Frisbee tag
Kids love to play tag. Why not add a Frisbee to the mix? Divide the kids into two teams for this activity from Perfect Party Games. The team that’s not “It” passes the Frisbee to each other, keeping it away from the “It” team. Once the “It” team gets the disc, the teams switch roles.
6. Frisbee tic-tac-toe
Take a large shower curtain and create a tic-tac-toe board with tape, like Occasionally Crafty does. Take turns throwing different colored Frisbees onto the board. The first person who lands three discs in a row, wins! You can also play in teams.
7. Shield throwing
Do your kids love superheroes? Practice throwing Captain America’s shield with this idea from Three Dot Design Studio. Set up a tower of cans on a table. Each child gets three turns to knock the cans off the table.
8. Frisbee bowling
This super simple game from Junkyard Sports is easy to play. Line up water bottles for bowling pins and try to knock them down with the Frisbee.
9. Frisbee golf
Using numbered baskets like Little Gene Green Bean does, set up a “golf course” around the yard. Take turns tossing the Frisbee towards the “hole.” Just like golf, try to take as few throws as possible to land the disc inside the basket. The player with the lowest score wins.
10. Frisbee bocce
For this Camping Club game, players form a line. The first person rolls a tennis ball. Each player tosses their Frisbee, trying to land it on or close to the ball. The player whose disc is the closest gets one point — two points if their Frisbee lands on the ball!
11. Frisbee H-O-R-S-E
Instead of shooting hoops, use a Frisbee for this game of H-O-R-S-E on PE Central. The first player creates a challenge, like hitting a target with a Frisbee. If they complete the challenge, everyone must try it. Complete the task and receive a letter until you spell H-O-R-S-E. Take turns being the challenger.
12. Frisbee baseball
Trade your ball and bat for a Frisbee in this game from Ezra Holland Consultin. Just like regular baseball, teams try to earn the most runs. “Batters” throw a disc and run the bases. If a fielding player catches it, the batter is out.
13. Frisbee dodgeball
Divide into two teams on the opposite sides of the lawn. Line up the Frisbees in the middle. When “Go!” is yelled, run, grab the discs and try to hit the other team. If you’re hit, you’re out. 14. Flying flowers
Make and Takes shows you how to turn a regular Frisbee into flying flowers. Players get a point for every one they can toss into a bucket (or “flower pot.”)
15. Ultimate Frisbee
