As the blustery autumn winds blow, it can be tempting to hide inside under a blanket and watch the world from our window. But don’t give in! This time of year is perfect for fun, outdoor activities such as kite flying, and will keep the kids entertained for hours.
If you don’t have a kite, don’t worry. Building one yourself is easy and great fun for the whole family. With these instructions you can bring a kite to life in no time at all. Or, if that still sounds like too much work, enter our raffle to be in with a chance to win one of three sets of kites!
Instructions:
1. Carve a small notch into each end of the bar for the string to run through later.
2. Form a cross with the two wooden sticks and wrap the yarn firmly around the middle of the sticks at the point of intersection. The string should form an “X” when tied together.
3. Stabilise the scaffold by threading the string through each notch to create a diamond shape. Wrap the cord tightly around the notches so that it has enough tension. Return the string to the middle of the frame and tie it there.
4. Cut the cloth or fabric to size. There should be excess material hanging over the edge of the frame.
5. Fold the fabric over the frame and sew it with a needle and thread.
6. Punch a hole in the top and bottom of the frame.
7. Use a new piece of string to knot one end through the hole at the top and the other at the bottom.
8. Make a tail out of a 2 metre cord and some ribbon. Attach it through the bottom hole with several loops.
9. Attach the handle to the piece of string that runs the length of the kite. Now it’s time to fly!

Care.com Europe LTD chooses three winners among all participants (decisive as of 28.10.2019 at 23:59). Each winner will receive 1 children’s kite. The winners will be notified via e-mail and will receive the prize by post.
