5 Great Baby-Friendly Yoga Classes Around Houston

Bring your tiny yogi to one of these fun yoga studios.

Yoga has been shown to have all kinds of benefits for adults, especially during pregnancy. It can improve sleep, lower your stress levels, and increase your core muscle strength. Group classes can also be a relaxing way to connect with your body and develop friendships at the same time. But grownups aren’t the only ones who can benefit.

Baby-friendly yoga classes are a great opportunity for parents, babysitters, or nannies, to do something good for yourself, while doing something good for the baby, too. Yoga can also stimulate young children’s minds, strengthen bodies, and bond with their caregivers. Here’s where to go for yoga classes where young children are totally welcome.

Heights Neighborhood Library

Address: 1302 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX 77008

A library probably might not be the most obvious place to host one of the best baby yoga classes in the city, but the Houston Public Library’s Heights location offers a free class every Thursday for babies 0 to 18 months old and their caregivers. The class is totally baby-focused, and instructors adapt the positions and movements depending on how the energy of the room is going. Gentle massaging throughout often leaves babies feeling relaxed — and because of all the baby snuggles, caregivers do, too.

The Heights Neighborhood library also hosts toddler yoga classes for kids 18 to 36 months every Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., where the seemingly unlimited energy of the newly mobile is redirected into yoga poses they do right alongside you.

Everything about the Motherhood Center is about nurturing new parents and helping the transition into parenthood. So, naturally, the Mom & Baby Yoga and Fitness classes there would be one of the best Mommy & Me classes in Houston. The class is designed specifically for women in the postpartum period, with movements and postures to help your body recover from pregnancy and childbirth. Infants from a few weeks old to just shy of crawling are welcome to join you in the positions or lie on a blanket alongside your mat, and the end of every session incorporates some gentle baby massage. Because the class is designed with babies in mind, no one cares if yours lets out a squeal or you have to leave for a minute to feed them. It’s a judgement-free zone.

YogaOne

Address, Hours, & Phone: Vary by location. | See website for details.
Fees: $15

If your baby isn’t really a baby anymore, the Kids Yoga classes at YogaOne provide an introduction to yoga practice for children 4 years and older. Instructors are specifically trained to teach children, and classes help the young yogis learn how to focus and breathe deeply through a series of kid-friendly postures and movements. No grownups are allowed in the kids’ class, so moms, dads, and other caregivers can hang out in the lobby or (better yet!) participate in an adult yoga class themselves.

The Woodlands Yoga Studio

Address: 25126 Grogans Park Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380
Hours: Thursdays, 1:30 p.m.
Phone: 936-446-9087
Fees: $10 for adults, free for kids

For those on the northside of town, the Woodlands Yoga Studio offers a mommy and me class, where kids from a few weeks old all the way up to age 6 are welcome. Instructors are knowledgeable, engaging, and adapt their instruction to meet the level of the students — even the tiny ones. Babies can join in with the movements on their own mat as soon as they’re physically able. Until then, use them as “resistance weights” for your own practice or as an adorable focal point to keep your balance.

BIG Power Yoga

Address: 3115 Allen Parkway, Houston, TX 77019
Hours: See studio’s schedule for class details.
Phone: 832-291-0977
Fees: $15

We are so grateful to have not had any major damage at BIG Montrose! However, our little Possibility Studio took on a bit of water and will be in savasana until further notice. We have canceled a few classes because of this. Please see the schedule for updates. We are working hard to get the floor restored and ready for you! . . . . #savasana #restoration #Houstonstrong

BIG Power Yoga offers toddler yoga classes (for ages 2-5) and kids yoga (for ages 3-12) at the same time as adult classes, so no need to scramble for a sitter when you want to get a session in. Kids practice many of the same traditional poses grownups do to build strength, patience, and calmness, but with a lot more fun games and crafts sprinkled in. If your child is especially enthusiastic about yoga, BIG Power Yoga will even lead a birthday party yoga class in their studio or wherever your party is. In addition to the Montrose studio, BIG Power Yoga also has a Memorial location.
