Pay rates for private child care way too high
Why aren't there 24 hour daycare centers? Weekends included. Many parents have to work shift work and there are very few daycare centers here. None are open past 6 pm and none offer weekend care. I am extremely upset that any in home sitter has the gall to ask 10$+ an hour. Babysitting isn't hard. You eat the food, you get to watch movies and be outside. 3-5$ an hour is appropriate unless you have a BA in early childhood education. If you need to make 10-15 an hour, take multiple kids. I do babysit and only charge 20$ a day for one kid 8-9 hours. That's the reality of daycare pay. What entitled you to 10+ an hour? Especially if I only require you to keep them alive and feed them. Not asking you to educate my child!
Hi! Babysitting isn't just about eating food and watching movies. We are also making sure your little one is safe at all times and we're there in case something ever happens. We focus directly on your child and no one else's. We also are coming in your home, and raising them the way YOU want them to be raised rather than in day care, being raised another way. Not to say daycares aren't better, its just being in a daycare, you are with numerous children that have your attention instead of one. Also, please be aware that charging your nanny/babysitter $3-5 an hour is in fact, illegal. Day cares can afford to charge cheap because there are so many children. You are also paying for someone who has years of experience vs someone who can get into a daycare fairly easy. I am in no way undermining daycares or bashing them in any way, but there's a big difference of daycares and babysitters/nannies. A nanny is a luxury, it's not a necessity and it's not something everyone can afford.
$3-5 per hour was the rate I was paid to babysit as a teenager in the 70's.
God bless anyone who decides to work for you.
There is babysitting, and there is nannying, careing for children's health, establishing a relationship with them disciplining and maintaining household values while helping them flourish is a nanny's job, and spoiling them and playing is a babysitters... and there is minimum wage to consider as we, legally are required to claim income on our taxes.
Why should you be eating the parent food and be taking such small salary whiles you need to pay for your bills, please do not make parents take advantage of you and take your own food along to take your normal salary.
