Is a garage sale a good way to help my mother make some extra money?
My mother doesn't have much money but she wants to have a garage sale. Is it a good way to earn some extra money?
Yes and help you to thin things out of her house that needs dusting or thrown away.and to gets her started thinking of the past & future .
No. Selling items at 50 cents to a dollar means tons of work and making no money.
Sounds like a super fun way to get some extra cash. Help mom to organize her items. Do not over price anything. Make sure that you have bins boxes and a table that has items ranging from $1-$5.00 dollars because I have had many successful sales. Little turns into a lot when you learn the value of letting things go.
yard sale and also fundraiser sale would be a good idea some people would like to help out. Fundraiser to help my mom survive (example)
If you are talking to pay for home care...no. The costs of home care are very high.
Yes. However, make sure that she is not alone during the sale.
A garage sell is a great way to make a little cash. Most people expect to almost get something for nothing at a garage sell. Make sure mom hangs on to what she may need in the next few years as it sounds like she would have a hard time replacing them if she doesn't have much money.
YES BAKE SALE FUND RAISER AND ETC.
Sure if she has lots of things to get rid of, garage sale would be perfect. It may looks like a piece of junk to someone, but it is great treasure to others.
Sure! Why not :)
sometimes, but a great deal of work goes into putting together a garage sale, good luck.
Garage sales can be a great way to earn some extra cash.
Lots of hard work , maybe selling on a web site would be better and less work. Donate small things to start cleaning out the house.
If she is up to it, that a great idea.
sure why not? If I worked for her, I'd help her! This suggests her mind is still working and has an idea which is AWESOME, so I'd let her go forward!
or post in social media or online...
Yes I think that's a good idea.
Yes but would ask the family member first. sometime the elders would sell valuable stuff without family knowing. Always have a family discussion first.
That is up to you. It won't make you a fortune, but depending on what you sell, it will give you some extra $. Look up a website for "how to do a garage sale" . IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT HOW TO GO ABOUT DOING ONE.
yes very much. it makes her feel useful.
It's a fabulous way to make some extra money, but more so for your mom to have something to keep her body and mind busy. Allowing her to feel responsible and also gives her the opportunity to meet new people. lots of positive trades.
Yard sales can be a good way to earn extra money but selling online can also be profitable. Enlist the help of a grandchild or someone who is tech savvy and use Craig's List and Facebook to sell the big items first. It will be important to use social media either way because you have to get the word out and advertise and the internet makes it easier than ever to accomplish this. Other things to consider are the location of the sale; make sure the location has adequate parking and it never hurts to have multiple families involved. Make sure you pick a good date: Friday and Saturday yard sales usually do the best. Plan to start early (usually 7-7:30 am is a good time to start). Prepping is very important. Make sure you don't try to throw it together overnight. Make sure you put a price on everything. The general rule is 50-30-10: new, unused items are 50% of their retail cost, slightly used items are 30% of retail and used items are 10% of retail. Make sure you have CASH to make change to start out. Remember what you don't sell you can always donate to Goodwill for a tax deduction!!
Of course. I have made quite a bit of money from throwing yard sales.
yard sale garage sale is good to earn pocket money plus she gets to socialize also
Sure it is. Just assist her that she might be selling stuff that she still needs or wears.
It can be, if she is in a Good location and has items large enough; antiques may be better off going to a specialist or an on-line sales avenue. I know it is So Very Hard for someone to think their life is not worth more than "they" are offering, but we have done this 3x in 4yrs. and my Dad was from the Great Depression Era, saved a lot because they always found a use for it; they were not a Throw Away Generation. So this probably didn't help much... Location & time of year I guess and storage and patience!
As long as she is not using those items why not,
depends if there is someone to help her and of course if the weather conditions are good
Yes! Depending on the condition and the cost, she can make some money
That all depends. Is she able to arrange a Garsge Sale based on her physical and mental condition? Most importantly, does she have family members and/or younger:somewhat more abled friends that are willing to devote much time to the gathering, setting up, day of event, and tearing down of garage ssle (not to forget tagging items, etc.).
Depending on her & what she's Willing to let go of... This is also just a Temporary fix for incoming extra income. So, take this in to thought while you decide. If nothing else... She'll thin out some items she no longer needs... Watch for Yard Sale/Estate Thieves... They're out there & looking for Easy targets...
Garage sales are a good way to earn money. You might also check out listing some of her things at local consignment stores. If they are still of value, you can make more money there instead of a garage sale.
Well sure and it would be fun as well for her I think.
Sure it is from things that she doe not need and use anymore. In addition to additional money, it lessens clutter but space saving as well.
Garage Sales can be profitable depending on the items for sale and your pricing. Remember an item is only worth what the buyers are willing to pay. Keep in mind Grandmother has sentimental attachments to things they all have her life's memories and she may have difficulty parting With them!! Lori
YES IT IS A WONDERFUL WAY TO MAKE MONEY AND CLEAN UP YOUR HOUSE AND MAKE ROOM.
