Do my cats need fresh air?

I don’t want to let our cats outside. I'm afraid something will get them or they'll run away. However, they often sit at the window and meow to go out. Do they need fresh air or is it okay that they stay indoors?

It's perfectly fine for them to stay indoors. Cats will want to go outside because they're cats, but it's extremely dangerous for them, even if they're up to date on shots. Cats can jump higher than you'd think and can climb vertical surfaces. They can get diseases that shots don't protect against, get mauled by a dog or other cats in the neighborhood, get hit by a car, run away and die from starvation/ the elements, eat poison or come into contact with poison, get attacked by hawks or eagles, and more. One thing that seemed to help a kitty that I was looking after was getting a cat tree and a perch, putting it next to the window, and letting them sit and watch the world that way. It seems to help!

These days in most steadily is much safer for cats to live indoors. I definitely think you should allow fresh air in the house whenever the weather permits for everyone's health. Take care!

it is just fine o keep them inside. after a while your cat should calm down on the meowing. you could always have the window open if it is screened, then the cat will have fresh air and still be safe inside the house. my cats are indoor outdoor cats and when they can't go outside we open the window and that normally makes them happy. but cats do not have to go outside.

It is okay that they are inside. Both of my cats do the same thing. So one day i bought them both leashes and now they can sit on my porch with me and I dont have to worry about them running away. If you do, however, decide to let them outside, it is very important that they have their Rabies and Felv vaccinations.
