I am pregnant (first trimester still) and starting to learn about all the things we need to get. What is a 5 point harness car seat? I know it's the kind you're supposed to get!

A five point harness car seat is a car seat design that has the straps (webbing) mounted to the seat at five points. Two above the shoulders, two at each side of the hips and one between the legs. All modern day carseats have a five point harness. The most important thing when picking out carseats for your newborn are to back sure the seat you purchase can be rearfacing. All carseats sold in stores pass safety regulations, but carseats only work if they are used properly. Make sure you get either a bucket seat or convertible seat that has a 5 pound minimum weight requirement. Read all instructions, and if need be look up a local child passenger safety technician to show you how to properly use and install the carseat of your choice.

A five point harness is where the straps attach to the car seat. 2 are at the baby's shoulders 1 on each side. 2 are at the baby's hips left and right. and one is where the harness buckles between baby's legs.
