I'm never sick so don't ask for time off. If this is a regular occurance with most people I would address it @ the time of the interview. How many sick days one is allowed ect..
I let them state their price first, then tell them all my attributes and how I can be an asset
When the children I take care of ask advise..then I know they look up to me as a role model. Or when then beam and laugh when they see me. As is the case of one infant /toddler I took care of. We were great paly mates!!
I'd say yes it's fair to come down on the price for one child only, but keep track of the days and hours so things don't become confusing!
