Virag Khara joined Care.com in September of 2021. He’s driven by the mission, and brings a unique perspective as he was a Care.com user long before he was an employee.
As the Head of Care for Business, Virag oversees all of the sales, marketing, and partnership channels for the Care.com’s B2B segment. Before Care, he led teams at Grammarly, LinkedIn, Bain & Company, and even his own startup in India. However, his most important roles are husband and father. Virag has an MBA from Harvard Business School and is a proud University of Texas Longhorn.
Can you tell us a little about who you are, where you are, and your family?
Sure! First and foremost, I’m a husband to my wife and dad to our two kids—a seven-year-old boy and a soon-to-be five-year-old girl. We’ve lived in the Bay area for quite some time, but prior to that I lived all over the world: Austin, Dallas, New York, India, and Los Angeles. Outside of “Dad,” my other job is to lead the Care for Business team to provide best-in-class family care benefits to employers and their employees.
What made you decide to join the Care team?
Definitely the mission and the vision, and the fact that I was a loyal user. My wife and I were users of Care.com for many years, even before my son was born. We started using the platform to find a nanny; we had access to it through our work. It was great to use it as an employee benefit from my employer at the time through Care for Business.
Over the years we’ve had the good fortune of just meeting some amazing caregivers for the family. We had a few nannies and babysitters, but also used senior care for my wife’s grandparents when they were still alive.
It’s just really been an incredible part of our own experience as a family and it’s rare to find a company whose mission you can connect with on such a personal level.
How would you describe your responsibilities at Care?
I am the person who helps other teams come together to drive our business forward by working with employers and other organizations across the country that are offering our benefits in their workplace. Our goal, the “what” I am responsible for, is ultimately enabling these other teams to be successful in that mission.
What inspires you the most about the work you do at Care?
The mission. Connecting families with caregivers and making them successful at work, and at home with their families. Also, the people. The thing that stands out to me about our company is everybody who is here has a personal connection to what we are doing. That’s a really rare thing that you will likely not find anywhere else.
Just for fun—do you have any other hobbies or passions you pursue in your downtime?
I love cooking and having people over. I make Neapolitan pizzas with a pizza oven in the backyard—and am pretty good at it! I am an avid reader and like golf. But mostly, it’s about family. Honestly, beyond that I feel like life is just all about spending time with the kids.
