My two kids took Reading for writing class for two years when they were elementary school students. Both of them are middle school students now. It's hard to ask their opinion When they were little. However, they are mature enough to frankly speak out the fact it's not helpful that much on their writing at all and it's only useful on enriching their reading experience. Reading a book, preparing some vocabularies, answering some questions and then writing short summary based on the book assigned can't significantly improve kids writing skills. Writing is a process that involves at least four distinct steps: Pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing. It is known as a recursive process. Providing instructions throughout the writing process is the key for writing class.

This program is awsome! It offers much more than you can get at Kumon. I am very impressed with the fact that they work with each child's needs. My son has improved drastically in the few short months he has been going to Spidersmart. He is confident and ready to rule first grade!!!. I thought he would not want to go to school for the summer but he actually looks forward to going there everytime. His teacher, Ms Lisa, is fantastic. She gets him to understand something with such ease that would make me just pull my hair out trying to do. The teachers there are certified and well trained. No half trained high school students for teachers here! I would recommend this program for anyone trying to get their child to catch up or just an extra edge!

I am very impressed by the Spidersmart program - it is pretty strict and pushy, but fun enough that the kids are not frustrated. And my daughter is not frustrated at all, she LOVES going there and her reading and writing improved A LOT the last three months since we have started there! Ms. Lisa is a WONDERFUL teacher and she writes me detailed notes and tips in the binder which helps me as an ESL-mother.
