I have had experience with taking care of two family members, each had cancer, one had skin cancer, during his surgery to remove some of the cancer on his face, they removed one of his eyes, a partial part of his nose, his cheekbone on one side and part of his ear. They inserted a feeding tube. I was responsible for cleaning out his eye socket, fed him through his feeding tube and made sure it was cleaned before and after giving him his Ensure. I also made sure he had his meds at the appropriate time each day and gave him regular bathing in his bed as he had trouble getting into the bathtub.
My other family member had Stage 4 Head and neck cancer, he also had a feeding tube, he had pic lines a couple of times, which I had to hook up to his antibiotics 3 times a day and then had to flush it out to make sure it was always sterile. Luckily, since he was around 48 years old and in good shape besides the cancer, he is in remission and doing well. Two years ago, he had a heart attack plus pneumonia, when I found him he was unconscious, his heart stopped three times on the way to the hospital, he was on life support for 12 days, I, once again took care of him for the next few months, he had another pic line, and had to administer antibiotics for the next few months. Glad to say, he is doing well these days, I still check up on him, take him to his doctors appointments and make sure he still gets and takes his meds as needed.
