At Butler Nursery School, we believe that children thrive in an age appropriate program within a safe and nurturing environment. We offer a curriculum designed to foster their growth, stimulate their curiosity, and challenge their mental and physical needs. We encourage the development of socialization skills and the building of self-esteem, while respecting each child s uniqueness as an individual. The classrooms at Butler Nursery School are bright and cheerful. We have a large, muraled indoor playroom and a well-equipped outdoor playground. Play is an important aspect of child development. Through play, children explore the world around them by learning how to socialize with others, expressing feelings through language, testing muscular skills, and developing math concepts. We enrich this play through reading, music, art, cooking, and dramatic play.
We offer half day programs to children age 2-4. Programs are offered 2, 3, and 5 days a week (days offered varies based on age). We do not require that a child be potty-trained before entering school. The school year runs from mid-September to early June, and a six-week summer camp is also available.
Some daily activities include free play, music, snack time, playground time, painting, story time, dress-up, circle time, and water play. Throughout the year, Butler holds special events such as our International Dinner, Holiday Festival, Christmas Tableau, and Easter Chapel Services.
Butler is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood in Northeast Yonkers. The Butler Nursery School is a program of St. John s Episcopal Church, Tuckahoe, and is founded on the highest Christian and educational standards. We share the teachings of Jesus Christ through stories, holiday observances, grace before snacks, and child-oriented chapel services. We are a proud member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools. We welcome families of all religious faiths to join us! We are pleased to boast a diverse student body.
