Experienced Preschool Teacher/Nanny Seeking Part/Full-Time Nannying/Babysitting

Avg response < 9 hrs
A recent transplant to Chicago from Raleigh, North Carolina, for the past two years I have been employed as a teacher at a five-star Reggio-inspired preschool located within a university. Before relocating to Raleigh, I lived in Portland, Oregon for seven years where I attended Portland State University and obtained a B.A. in Arts & Letters with a minor in creative writing. My primary studies were in writing, theatrical performance, and sociology, though it was in the midst of studying I found my passion for working with young children at a child development center, Portland State 's Reggio-inspired laboratory school. There I had the privilege of working with children from six months to six years in age, and teaching alongside a staff of immensely varied backgrounds and experiences made my six years as an assistant teacher throughout college and beyond one of my most cherished and valuable experiences as an adult. In addition to my time as an assistant, and then as a teacher at another school (first of two and 3-year-olds during the 2012/2013 school year, and then 8-18-month-olds from July through April 2014), I have also worked with children in varying capacities for the past 16 years. Not only have I been a devoted babysitter and nanny for many families, I have acted as an after-school art teacher for fourth and fifth grade students, assisted high school students with special needs, team-taught and designed music-based lesson plans for K-5 students, and interned (and was later employed at) an independent, science-based children's book publisher. Eventually, I hope to work with children in the realms of theater and creative writing, offering acting, fiction, and play writing workshops as part of a comprehensive program centered around character development and story-telling. Aside from my undergraduate theater and writing studies, I also hold a number of credits in family/child studies, drawing and painting, sociology, and psychology; I have also received continuing education credits and training through The Little School at Duke specific to conscious discipline, Reggio-Emilia inspired school settings, ITS-SIDS (Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep-Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), and RIE (Resources For Infant Educarers). I also hold current certification in Infant/Child/Adult CPR/First Aid.

We found Katie through though my husband knew her from high school. I didn't attend the same high school as them, so I didn't know her from A. Upon meeting her, I knew she was our girl to hire for our 18 month old. We have a busy restaurant in our town so dependability is key for us. Katie has always been there when we have asked and even has come at a moment's notice. She is wonderful with our daughter, often times taking her out to the park or to bringing her up to the restaurant to say hi while we're working. Anyone in town that encounters Katie with our daughter has had something but pleasant things to say. Every morning Katie arrives at our house, our daughter scream-runs at her out of excitement if that tells you anything about how fondly she thinks of Katie. We are so happy to have found Katie and made her a regular part of out family existence, we all couldn't be happier and can't recommend her more.
