Build trust with safety checks

As a caregiver, you know how important it is to build a sense of trust with the families you work with. 

That’s why we offer families the option of requesting additional safety checks, including our new Social Media Check, for added confidence during and after the hiring process. As a caregiver you also have the option to purchase additional safety checks on yourself, which you can send to families as part of your application.

Safety checks families can request

While you always have the choice to decline the optional checks, we encourage you to opt in to help show you’re serious about safety.

1. Social Media Check – NEW

Our new social media safety check, performed by First Advantage, is a seven-year search of your public social media activity across seven major platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X) plus news articles and webpages.

Families don’t gain access to your complete online activity—only publicly visible activity. The report will flag potentially concerning public content such as hate speech, violence or substance abuse. 

• When this may be requested: Before you’re hired
• Cost: Free to you; families pay a fee starting at $29.99

2. Enhanced Background Check

This is a more extensive criminal background check that includes everything in your required Care.com Background Check—plus expanded database searches and alias checks.  The family that requests this check will get a report of each search, and any history it may find.

• When this may be requested: Before you’re hired
• Cost: Free to you; families pay a fee starting at $59

3. Continuous Background Check

With Continuous Background Check, an ongoing monitoring service checks select criminal databases for new reportable activity. If something changes, both you and the family are notified.

• When: When working with a family long-term
• Cost: Free for both you and the family with a Care.com membership

What to expect if a family requests a safety check

We value your privacy as a caregiver. That’s why every safety check requires your consent. Here’s what to expect if a family requests one:

1. You’ll receive a notification that a safety check request has been made 
2. You’ll have seven days to accept or decline the request, but we encourage you to opt in as soon as possible
3. If you accept, our partner First Advantage runs the check and prepares the report*
4. The results are sent directly to the requesting family—usually within just a few days
5. You will be notified when report is complete—you can also request a copy of the report for your own records

*Continuous Background Check reports are only compiled and sent when some new reportable activity is detected in your criminal record.

Safety checks you can purchase

We offer a number of additional safety check option you can purchase on yourself to enhance your profile and share with families.

1. Motor Vehicle Records Check*

Turn your safe driving record into a hiring advantage with a Motor Vehicle Records Check (MVR). The check includes information on your license status, driving history, and traffic violations. You’ll get a profile badge and can share this report with families as part of your application.

• Cost: Starting at $19 as a one-time fee

2. Enhanced Background Check

This check includes everything in your mandatory Care.com Background Check, plus expanded database searches and alias checks. You’ll get a profile badge and can share this report with families as part of your application.

• Cost: Starting at $49 as a one-time fee

2. Enhanced Background & Motor Vehicle Records Check*

This includes everything covered above, but as a discounted package.

How to purchase a safety check

You can purchase these safety checks in your app anytime through this link or by following these steps:

1. Log-in to your Android of iOS Care.com Caregiver app
2. Click on your profile picture at the top right to access your settings
3. Choose “view/edit profile”
4. Scroll down to the Safety section and choose which check you’d like to purchase
