Whether for medical reasons, safety reasons, or for the peace of mind of the rest of the family, there may come a time when a senior is not able to live at home independently. In many cases, nursing homes or assisted living are viable options, but for some families this is not the right choice. A great alternative to facility care is Home Care. There are two types of in-home senior care, medical and non-medical, and each offers a number of different services.
Skilled medical home care offers a range of different treatments, some of which can be as intense as hospital-level care. Medical home care nurses' duties can include, but are not limited to, wound care, pain management, infusion therapy, rehabilitation therapies, and medication management. Non-medical home care, a service intended for more capable seniors, often includes dressing and bathing assistance, food preparation, help with errands and household chores, and general companionship.
