Michael M. - San Antonio Tutor or Private Instructor

Profile of Michael M.

Part-Time, 10 + Years of Experience

I am retired public school teacher who still very much enjoys teaching but not the stress involved with the management of large groups of students.

My focus was on math for grades 4 through 8. I also have experience teaching adults who are preparing for the GRE (Graduate School Entrance Exam). I would not, though, be the best tutor for an advanced placement calculus or physics student.

I am very aware of how a lack of understanding of fundamental concepts can cause frustration starting with grade six.

I believe in a balanced approach of both conceptual awareness built through hands-on and open-ended activities and basic skills practice that is fun because it is designed to allow a student to feel their own positive development quickly.

My computer skills are top-notch. I have developed voice-controlled self-managed math and science courses for mobility impaired students. I also am an advanced level spreadsheet application designer and also can teach others how to design and maintain basic online database applications. Other specialized computer skills I can teach adults are how to effectively use a smartphone and how to effectively design and implement online calendars for personal and organizational use.

My main goal is to keep a full calendar helping eager learners. I charge $13.33 per hour, but require minimum 90 minute sessions. Each session, therefore, with tax, comes out to $21.62. I bill every 30 days or when accumulated charges near $200.

I live a very simple, low expense lifestyle, and basically have my expenses covered by my pension. Therefore, I am willing to provide excellent value for my services.

Experience shows that if I am happy, my clients are happy. I dislike long drives, and my professional pride requires that I be able to achieve great results with a student in a reasonably short period of time. Nearby client's who are excited about their progress... that's what makes me happy!
