Elise S. - Philadelphia Tutor or Private Instructor

Profile of Elise S.

Part-Time, 1 Year of Experience

I am enthusiastically committed to the learning and teaching process, particularly in the subject of English. As a child, I struggled in learning to read, but once I gained the ability to read books by myself, I was immensely rewarded for my hard work by the knowledge and pleasure books gave me. I have found that my struggle with English not only increased my appreciation for the subject, but also helps me relate to and assist others who may face similar challenges.

I have mainly assisted high school and college students with analyzing literature, researching, and writing. I have worked with several ESL students. I enjoy getting to know the students, how they learn, and finding new ways to teach them based on this knowledge. I understand that each person has a different style of learning and needs.

I recently received a BA in English with honors. I have successfully completed three extended research projects and a senior honors thesis. I presented my findings at several in-state undergraduate research symposiums and the only National Undergraduate Literature Conference in America, which is held in Utah by Weber University. These projects have helped me develop competence in English, problem-solving, creativity, patience, and communication skills.

I hope that through serving as a tutor, I can share my talents and love of English with others, making it possible for them to reap the same benefits I have received from English.
Related Hobbies and Interests
I enjoy a range of activities including cooking, playing the harp, reading, and making art.
