I am an artist and educator with eight years experience as a teacher and tutor: as a film making instructor to teens; a teaching assistant to undergrads; and more recently as a No Child Left Behind tutor to grade-school kids. In many ways, being an NCLB tutor was more rewarding than the group work as I got to know my students and their families, their stories, and watch the kids' progress through a carefully managed schedule of worksheets and quizzes. I remember watching them beam with pride at finishing a book cover to cover, some for the first time, or seeing their test scores move up from the start of tutoring to its conclusion.
