Andrew M. - Chicago Tutor or Private Instructor

Profile of Andrew M.

Part-Time, 1 Year of Experience

I come from a family of teachers and so I have a deep passion and respect for education. I have always found that certain subjects come easily to me and so I believe that it is my duty to help others understand the subjects that I love and care about. I also had several tutors when I was younger and I quickly came to understand how important it is to have a teacher who is engaging and comfortable with their students. I have worked as a volunteer at an elementary school in Connecticut for two years and I discovered that I adore working with children and helping them find the answers themselves rather than simply divulging solutions. I have also worked with students at college level. I was a teaching assistant for both the upper level organic chemistry class and the introductory theater class. I had to help students prepare for exams and write up labs for the chemistry class and I organized a showcase of short plays for the students in the theater class. In my final year at Oberlin College I worked as an academic ambassador for the dean of studies office where I had to help 30 college freshmen settle into their new school by providing both academic and social guidance one-on-one. All of these were incredibly rewarding experiences and I hope to continue working as a tutor for as long as possible.
Related Hobbies and Interests
I am a mathematician and a theater kid. I have always loved acting as well as writing. I write plays, books and screenplays in a variety of genres and styles. I also adore movies and reading.
