I was a classroom teacher for 30 years. After retiring, I substituted and have kept up to date on research-based education. For the past two years, I tutored children in reading and writing as a volunteer. I have a close association with a reading teacher in MCPS schools. She is an excellent resource and support for assessing and identifying problems, and finding appropriate materials. I find it very satisfying to be able establish a rapport with one child at a time. It's exciting to see confidence build and progress made.
