My name is Stephanie, and I currently hold a type 09 (grade 6-12) teaching certificate. I have a BA in European History and Comparative World Studies. I also received a distinction of honors from the History Department and graduated Cum Laude. I completed my graduate degree, receiving a MAT (Master of Arts) in the Teaching of History. I graduated with a GPA of 3.8. I student taught on the south side of Chicago at a charter school, where I co-taught 8th and 9th grade History and English; I also prepped my students and proctored the ISATs. This experience strengthened my ability to work with students who have very diverse learning styles. I also worked one on one, teaching U. S. Government to an 11th grader with a learning disability
In this past year I taught for three and a half months as a long-term social studies substitute teacher. I taught U. S History and co-taught an AP course called American Studies. American Studies is an English/history combined block course. I spent another 3.5 months as a long-term substitute, where I taught freshman global studies and 11th grade honors level U. S. History. In addition to my two teaching experiences, I also spent this school year tutoring an 11th grader in writing skills, A. P. U. S. history, and ACT reading prep. I also proctored and prepped my students for the ACT and PLAN tests. While I am technically certified as a social studies teacher, I am only 4 credit hours away from my English endorsement and I have experience teaching Language Arts, during both my student teaching and at New Trier.
I was also a nanny all through college, which demonstrates my love and devotion of working with kids and my very patient nature when it comes to working with students. I have a natural gift for connecting with students and that is essential as an educator because it gives you insight to how each individual student learns. Being able to distinguish what type of learner (visual, audio, text processor etc.) your student is, is one of the most important components of being a successful educator.
