After resigning from my position as a special education teacher, I have been tutoring students for the ACT. As a special education teacher, I taught high school history, tutored students in a variety of subjects (i. e. multi-grade math, social studies, science, English) and prepared students for college entrance examinations, such as the ACT. I have been tutoring on and off since I was a senior in high school (10 years) and my experiences range from working with students in both the general and special education curriculum. Recently, I worked for two tutoring companies teaching the essentials of the ACT to prepare students to take the exam. For one of the companies, I taught two classes of high school juniors at a Chicago Public School for the ACT. I also taught an individual student for the ACT for the other company. I can design curriculum and lesson plans, and I am adept at assessing students in order to differentiate tutoring. I have developed Individual Education Plans that establish goals in all academic areas and assess students to determine their learning style. When tutoring, I tailor my style to coincide with the learning style of the student, and I also am able to offer a variety of learning approaches. When working with students, they can demonstrate their understanding through traditional or non-traditional methods. I am passionate about tutoring because I feel every student should have the opportunity to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. Therefore, I would be interested in providing these opportunities to all students in a holistic manner.
