I am a NJ-certified elementary teacher and I hold certificates in both Elementary Education as well as one in Reading Recovery. Though I have this special training, I can tutor in all elementary subjects.
I'm an Elementary Teacher and I have specialized training in Reading Recovery. This is an intervention reading program that is hands-on and multi-sensory. If your child is struggling, I can help them accelerate to their correct reading level by teaching them letter/sound relationships, phonics, spelling, writing, concepts about print, comprehension, fluency, and more. Reading Recovery is short-term intervention. A child begins to accelerate anywhere between 12 and 20-weeks. I've had success with prior students with once a week lessons, but I suggest two. My hourly rate for this specialized program is $50 for once a week, $40 for twice a week. If your child is an on-level or an advanced reader, I can provide a challenging enrichment. I find that many students who can read have difficulty with reading comprehension skills. I can also provide instruction in Writing and Math. No matter what subject I'm teaching, I show students how to use a variety of strategies to help them at point of difficulty. I instruct Writing with a Writers' Workshop approach and with Math, I expose the students to a lot of open-ended word problems. I guide them to sketch a picture of the problem and we work together to plug numbers into it to solve the problem. My lessons are aligned with the Core Standards. When I take on students, they are mine until the desired academic goal is reached. That's my dedication to the children I've been hired to educate. I keep excellent records and if any documentation has to be presented to your child's school as evidence of intervention, I can give it to you along with a summary of where the child started, what lessons were taught based on the Core Standards, and where we are at that time, including how many lesson were given over what range of time. I'm a very energetic and patient tutor. I have many references.
