My knowledge of Spanish comes from my service as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Environmental Education program in Panama from 1997-1999. I worked in the elementary school doing teacher training and teaching classes in grades 1-6, all in Spanish. I was the only English speaker in my town so I was forced to learn Spanish quickly! Prior to going to Panama, I studied Spanish for two semesters at Northern Essex Community College.

After Peace Corps, I taught beginner Spanish through the Methuen Adult Community Education Program for four semesters during 2002 and 2003. When my last class ended, I continued private classes with four of my students. We continued to meet for another year and a half. My former students would be available for a reference.

I am big on grammar, reading, and vocabulary. In my classes, we used both a text book and an easy Spanish reader. I encourage my students to speak and to read out loud.

My wife is from Costa Rica so I have plenty of opportunity to maintain my skill in the Spanish language and to continue to learn!
