During college, I volunteered at an inner city Waco elementary school as a reading tutor my sophomore and junior year in college. I volunteered under the Reading Tutor Program. As a reading tutor, I read with my student for at least an hour a day after school in the school's library. The student had the option to choose a book to read, and after reading the book, I would ask the student several comprehension questions to review what they read. At the end of the week, the student would take a reading quiz conducted on their school computers. We also kept a log of every book they read that included the number of pages and the reading level.
