I have spent 3 years working in elementary education. The first two were as an AmeriCorps member with the Washington Reading Corps program. This year I was hired as a paraeducator (teacher aide) at the same school where I served my second AmeriCorps year. My responsibilities are primarily teaching small-group reading lessons, tutoring students who need extra practice, & homework help, as well as recess supervision. I am very passionate about education, and strongly believe that keeping kids' minds engaged while school is out for the summer is one of the most important ways to get the most of their education. I work with a lot of students who struggle academically, and have problems with confidence as a result. My first priority is to help students believe in themselves and make sure they know from the get-go that I believe in them. I truly believe that given the proper support, all children are capable of success. I also think learning should be FUN!
