I have always loved education, both from the student's perspective and that of the teacher. I started the Grammar Club at my high school (Windsor, in Boston) so that I could start a tutoring program in English grammar at school for my peers who were struggling with concepts. I was also a Peer Supporter at Winsor School, providing high school biology and Spanish tutelage to underclassmen. In the classroom, I know that I learn best when I collaborate with those around me, especially those close in age, and I treasure those "Aha!" moments when someone you are working alongside finally grasps that concept that has been eluding them, or one of your classmates explains something in a new way that suddenly makes perfect sense. One of my most rewarding teaching experiences was through a youth community service organization called Amigos de las Americas, through which I was able to work in a tiny rural community in Paraguay, teaching lessons in the local school (in Spanish and the kids' native language, Guarani) on topics including health, nutrition, and the environment. Other volunteer teaching opportunities have taken me to the Dominican Republic as well, where I taught English to Spanish-speaking youth aged 3 to 16. I have also volunteered at a pre-school where I led art projects with the kids. I am very patient, and I have a lot of experience working with children since I have a younger sister and have been babysitting for over 8 years. At Stanford University, I am studying to go to medical school, and I will be majoring in Human Biology. I can tutor kids of any age in the following subjects: English (writing, grammar, reading skills), biology, Spanish language, and lower-level math (arithmetic, etc).
