Having graduated from my high school as valedictorian, I have tutored classmates in subjects ranging from pre-calculus to English literature and for various standardized tests, including the SAT's, Regents, and AP exams. Throughout my years as a tutor, I have found that the most important qualities for both the tutor and the tutored are patience and persistence. Whether I am explaining the difference between differentiation and anti-differentiation for a calculus assignment or pointing out the various literary devices in Romeo and Juliet to help construct a well-crafted essay, the very process of tutoring is a learning process for both sides. After all, everyone learns differently. Some may be visual learners. Others may be auditory learners. Many may be both. Learning to adjust my teaching style to the needs of my many tutorees has not only helped me teach the given material more efficiently, but has also taught me to better understand and appreciate the unique learning style of each individual tutoree.
