Hello there! My name is Karen, and I am currently a first-year student at University of California, San Diego. I am a double major in Biology and Management Science, so I have taken classes that have enhanced my understanding of mathematics and science.

I am particularly comfortable with tutoring in the areas of Math and Music (theory as well as basic performance), though I would also be open to other subjects based on the student's academic needs. This especially applies to teaching at the elementary level, since I have extensive experience working with children.

In high school, I was a teacher's assistant in chemistry from 2008-2010. I have given private tutoring lessons in algebra 1, and I worked as a tutor at Kumon Learning Center for mathematics and reading from September 2009 to August 2010. I have challenged myself in school by taking 10 AP (advanced placement/college level) classes and 7 Honors classes in a diversity of subject areas (math, science, history/social studies, English, Spanish, and music theory).

Additionally, I am bilingual. I am fluent in Cantonese Chinese and have an adequate understanding of Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. I was born in Hong Kong, and I attended a Cantonese Chinese school in America from 1st to 9th grade. I took Spanish lessons from 1st grade to junior year of high school, including 3 years of advanced Spanish in high school.

I started taking violin lessons at age 4 and joined a youth orchestra at age 8, so I would be comfortable helping beginner-level students with basic violin techniques. I also have a solid understanding of music theory, so I would be comfortable with tutoring students in basic theory and composition.

I have a proficient understanding of computer programs (such as Microsoft Office), and I type at a speed of roughly 150 words per minute. In addition to tutoring in the student's home, I would also be open to tutoring at a specified location (e. g. a library).

I would be an excellent tutor for your child because I enjoy learning and helping others learn whether or not money is involved. In fact, I have been helping my 2 younger sisters with their schoolwork since I understood the concept of teaching! I welcome the opportunity to help any student who seeks my assistance.
