Hi Potential Parents and Students:
I have the ability to teach/tutor at various levels, from beginners to advanced and professional, in subjects such as Music History, Music Theory, Ear-Training and Sight singing, Piano, and Voice. I use different teaching techniques in getting my point across, from visualization and imagination to advanced technical descriptions. Genres that I teach in voice include Opera, Classical, Pop, Chinese Pop, Broadway, R&B, etc.
In Music History, the student will learn about different periods in music: Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, Classical, 20th and 21st Century Music, and their respective popular composers and their works that have made a difference in the musical world.
In Music Theory, depending on the level of the student, with beginners learning about the note names and their positions on the staff, to musical intervals and the fundamentals of music like rhythm, timbre, texture, harmony. We will also talk about the different types of scales and harmonies. Once those are covered, we learn about chords and triads and their inversions. The more advanced students do counterpoint, forms and analysis of certain compositions or simple musical pieces, and also the 7th chord and their inversions.
In Ear-Training and Sight singing, which go side by side, the students learn to develop a "hearing eye" and a "seeing ear", meaning they will be taught to write the music they hear and will be able to hear the music and know how they sound like just by looking at the notes. With this subject, the students develop a perfect pitch that will be very helpful for their music education.
In Piano, the students are taught depending on their level. We will be covering basic theory and work on strengthening little fingers as well. The most important goal that I focus on for my students is relaxing their fingers as they play and the proper position to have the least amount of tension in their fingers and body while they play.
In Voice, the students are expected to come prepared to sing with music that they have either chosen or prepared. A typical lesson begins with a warm-up and vocalization, focusing on the proper position of the voice, aiming for the least possible effort to achieve the maximum results possible.
I have received my Master's in Music from New England Conservatory and have performed in Operas and competed in Vocal Competitions in Italy, Japan, India, and won.
Music is FUN! Hope to hear from you!
