I worked as an educational specialist, naturalist, and volunteer coordinator for 30 years at a nature education center in Oakbrook before retiring recently.

I am currently in business for myself presenting educational, entertaining programs at schools, libraries, and park districts that delight and inspire people of all ages with storytelling, live animals, and audience participation.

In addition, I am a tutor, specializing in reading instruction, but I am also available to tutor Math and Science for elementary school children.

Reading is the fundamental skill upon which all formal education is based. It is estimated that 85 to 90 percent of students who are poor readers, including many classified as learning disabled, could increase their reading skills to average level with intensive, early instruction that includes: phonics, listening skills, language development, vocabulary, storytelling and writing, exploration of children's literature, and activities that inspire love of reading.

I used all of the above techniques when I tutored my son who struggled to read because of a learning disability for several years when he was in elementary school. He now has two Masters degrees and an excellent job.

I have always loved reading and am just starting to offer my services as a reading tutor because I want to help struggling readers succeed like my son.
