While I was completing my first undergraduate degree in Business Finance at The University of Mississippi, I unintentionally earned myself the role and title of "the most helpful and understanding tutor in Oxford--for free," by the students of both the mathematics and business departments. Almost every night, I had at least 2-3 students stopping by my house in hopes of getting in a few minutes with me to re-explain how to do a math problem (or some other subject problem) in a new light or different way than that of how their professors had maybe explained to them in class that was not quite clicking with them yet. It became evident, to both the students as well as myself, that I have the special ability of seeing into a struggling student's train of thoughts, and then using that knowledge to apply it to my teaching to help better explain the problem in a new way that was more adaptive to that particular student's learning styles. I found through this experience that I not only find tutoring to be an enjoyable job, but also a rewarding one, because I learned that there really is nothing more rewarding than seeing the improvements in the students' performances and the revelations the students have when they look at me with a smile and say, "Oh, I get it now!" after learning the same problem, but just in a different way.
A little about me: I grew up here in Nashville and graduated high school from St. Cecilia Academy in 2007 as one of the top students of my class. I earned a B.B.A. in Managerial Finance from Ole Miss in May 2011. Currently, I am working on my last two semesters at Belmont University, where I will earn a second Bachelor's in Mathematics in May of 2013. With just one course this summer in the mornings, I have plenty of free time that I would love to fill up with tutoring students!
