I began working for a school district in 2005, as a special education aide. While I worked primarily with preschool-2nd graders who have Autism. I also had the opportunity to work in general education classes as a full inclusion aide for my last two years. I am trained in ABA therapy, and became CBEST certified after graduating from Cal Poly in 2008.
While working for the school district I also tutored two brothers, one in kinder and one in 1st grade. For the next three years I not only helped them with their homework and projects, but also taught them life long study skills, organizational skills, and test taking skills. We practiced STAR testing and used interactive online math and reading games. I genuinely love working with children. My goal is to find way the easiest way to approach a particular subject so that they are excited about learning and feel confident. Because of my early education experience, I reinforce often, give very clear and realistic expectations, and most importantly try to make learning fun. Tutoring is not just about the subject, or getting the work done. It's about creating a positive learning environment and teaching life long skills so that the student can become independent learners.
