I received my BA from the University of Connecticut in Human Development and Family Studies which allowed me to develop a strong background in child development, family dynamics and the psychology of learning. Following that, I earned my MS in Elementary Education at Eastern Connecticut State University. At the same time I was able to become certified in grades K-6 by the Connecticut State Board of Education. After taking three additional Praxis tests, on which I received exemplary scores, I also earned a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing in Elementary Education (K-5) from the New Jersey State Board of Education and a Statement of Eligibility (Primary-5) from the Kentucky State Board of Education.
When I was an undergraduate student and reflecting on my studies of child development, there was no hesitation when I chose to study education as I have always loved working with children. In addition, my passion and experience throughout my college studies and daily interaction with children continually hones my communication skills. Through my four years of substitute teaching and 10 years of swim coaching, I have learned to believe in the value of effective communication, content knowledge and enthusiasm.
My skills developed in coaching are indispensable in the classroom. In addition, as a result of my extensive substitute teaching positions, I was able to sharpen and balance skills that I have learned in coaching: instructional methodologies, classroom management and creativity. It became clear to me that my enthusiasm was the catalyst for my continued growth as an educator. The opportunity to create lifelong learners remains my most valued teaching goal.
