I have a Master's degree in English, and I was a writing tutor for 1.5 years in a college writing center. In that position, I worked with undergraduate and graduate students as well as professors who required assistance with writing. The position was contingent upon taking courses in tutoring writing, which I attended for the full 1.5 years. My tutoring style is to point out corrections for grammar, punctuation, spelling and style, but, more importantly, to train the student to become a better writer by explaining the rules underlying the corrections.
