I am currently working in my tenth year as a special education teacher for fourth and fifth grade students in a Boston suburb. I have a a Masters in Moderate Special Needs and Elementary Education, and I believe in helping students use their strengths to help them with their areas of difficulty. I am experienced in working with students from kindergarten through sixth grade with a variety of special needs including ADHD, dyslexia, processing difficulties, Aspergers, etc. I have much experience tutoring in the areas of reading, writing, math, and study skills and organization. After becoming certified in the Empower writing program after a 10 month training with its creator, Bonnie Singer, I have used this program extensively with students to help them plan out their ideas before writing and to write organized paragraphs and essays. Other programs I use include the Wilson Reading Program and Read Naturally. I have had extensive experience as well in teaching math problem solving strategies and tricks in helping students to learn their math facts.
