I fell back in love with my childhood literature favorites when I took a course in children literature one semester. The following semester, I worked as a volunteer tutor for a local school. There, I assisted children who were behind in reading and helped them learn to break down and work through difficult words, and to use the pictures in the story to help them learn the new words and better understand the story. The children that I worked with improved in their reading skills significantly and they fell in love with reading.

More recently, I have been tutoring high school freshmen and sophomores in Algebra I and Geometry to help them prepare for the TAKS test. I use lots of color, illustrations, everyday examples and manipulatives to help them grasp critical concepts. My goal is to help them learn to break down various problems into manageable steps so that math becomes an interesting puzzle to solve rather than an intimidating task.
