My experience caring for those with special needs is broad in many aspects. I am a natural caregiver and developed my skills first by helping my mother that past away due to her battle with cancer. Before she went to hospice, her family cared for her at home. She had a hospital bed at home and a schedule of nurses, medicines, and meals to provide her comfort in her last days. Years later in my teens my grandmother was diagnosed with two different types of cancer. One was breast cancer and I am proud to say she has been a survivor for 20 years. During her radiation treatments I was responsible for getting her to the cancer center at least 3 days a week. I also helped her cope emotionally with her breast being removed and wearing her new prosthetic breast. I also am a cosmetologist which means I am qualified to do pedicures, manicures, haircuts, dry shampoos (usually needed if bedridden) and other great services. Because I work with a variety of women, I am very familiar with helping the handicap. I have clients that cannot travel far and need their hair done at home. I have a client that is blind and go to dialysis several days a week, which means she needs help walking in and out of the salon. It is my pleasure to do so and I also make sure her transportation is available. I also have a client that is paralyzed and one with MS. I have to lift both of the ladies to the shampoo bowls and they are at least 175 pounds. I am a healthy 37 yr old African American who believes in living healthy. I have two daughters, one in college and one in middle school. I have 2 yrs of college and was studying to be a RN. I had to put my studies on hold due to a divorce but I still hold a great passion for caring for others. Due to my flexible schedule in the salon business. I was always available to get my children and other families to and from school. I also substitute teach from time to time. I am a natural with children of all ages, even teenagers. God gave me a special gift for loving people that need me.
