I have also been an aide for two different children with Down Syndrome. For two summers I have worked as a one-on-one aide for two boys who have a diagnosis of Smith-Lemli-Opitz disease. I am very comfortable with feeding tubes, changing diapers, and children who are non verbal and who have limited mobility. I know the basics of sign language and hope on becoming fluent soon.
I found my love of working with children with special needs 3 years when I began working with a young girl with Autism. She opened me to so many things I was previously ignorant to in terms of working with children with special needs and I couldn't be more grateful. I really feel as though working with children with special needs is my calling.
