While pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Music, I took a summer to work at a Christian camp for individuals with disabilities, and that summer changed my life. Although I finished my music degree, I feel most fully alive when serving individuals with special needs, and most of my work experience is in the disability field. I have 15 years experience caring for an extremely wide variety of disabilities through the Christian camp and travel ministry I mentioned; two summers paid full-time camp staff and 13 years of volunteer trip care giving. I completed an Associate's Degree in Disability Intervention Services and am a Certified Group Exercise Instructor and Certified Personal Trainer. I have worked as a nurse aide and program assistant in nursing and special needs group homes, been a state-tested/certified nurse aide and worked for home health care agencies, worked for the State Board of Developmental Disabilities, doing care for individuals ranging from social outings, behavioral interventions, physical ADLs, to designing and implementing an exercise program for a client with a degenerative muscular disorder. I have experience with all ages, babies through older adults, and just about every major category of disability. I am a volunteer ASL interpreter at church and have volunteered with many adapted activities--sports, recreation programs, camps, music, dances, races, outings of all sorts--basically have learned to make just about any activity accessible. I feel life is a gift, and I am here to love God and love people. I believe I am good at what I do because my motivation is to serve God through serving others, and to give the unconditional love that I am so blessed to freely receive from God.
