In high school, I helped a friend of the family who was the teacher for the special needs class at my school. After college, I moved to Destin, Florida, where I worked at a daycare for special needs children. Those children touched my heart in a way that I didn't think was capable for children that didn't belong to me....

I have always loved children. In fact I've always believed that I was born to be a mother. In high school, I helped a friend of the family who was the teacher for the special needs class at my school. After college, I moved to Destin, Florida, where I worked at a daycare for special needs children. Those children touched my heart in a way that I didn't think was capable for children that didn't belong to me. I was amazed daily at their challenges and successes. Now, I am a mother, and my daughter is the light of my life. She was born with Down syndrome and a complete AV canal defect (a congenital heart defect that required her to undergo surgery). Through her conditions and those of the other children that I've cared for and watched grow, I have gained the experience needed to care for children with special needs.
