My older sister is a Rubella Child from the '60's epidemic. She is deaf, nearly blind and mentally challenged. She lived in our home until she was 26. I speak some sign language and am very adept at working with folks who have multiple handicaps. I recently had the opportunity to temporarily care for a child missing a gene who is ambulatory at this point and integrate him into my household of 6. He speaks some with sign, some with verbal language and the rest is simply intuitive communication. I had the opportunity to rediscover just how skilled I am at working with special needs people. I have great patience, understanding and intuitive abilities, as well as some general knowledge regarding medical needs.
