I am a 25-year-old graduate student who will be done with my clinical training at the end of July. I currently work with children and adults who are mentally ill including children with Asperger's, ADHD, and other disorders. In junior high and high school I babysat for many families with children including children with autism and ADHD. In high school, I worked at a daycare with a special little guy who also had autism. Around that same time, I spent two summers working as a "buddy" where I worked with developmentally disabled adults. In college, I had little time to babysit or care give, but did on occasion. This included 6 months of living with my grandmother who was physically disabled, had OCD, and suffered from various bouts of illness. I also have some experience with children with autism, MR, ADHD, Down's syndrome, respiratory problems, and various medical conditions. Also, while I am no longer certified, I previously completed CNA training, in which I completed clinical hours caring for adults in sub-acute care.

I believe that children and adults should form a bond with caregivers and that babysitting and care giving is more than just sitting. I prefer to do activities, artwork, or play outside instead of having children watch a lot of TV. I also believe that it is important for individuals to have a lot of choices, especially those with special needs. It is important to allow a person to do what they are able to do, and I understand it can be frustrating for a person to have decisions forced onto them. I love working with people with special needs because I can help them achieve and help raise their confidence.
