Renee N. - Romulus Special Needs Caregiver

Profile of Renee N.

Full-Time, 10 + Years of Experience

I have worked under an agency and private care within the families' or clients' home. My experience is with a variety of age and developmental levels. The range of disabilities include Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism/Asperger's, and mentally/emotionally impaired. I enjoy seeing those under my care grow and change. I love the connection that can develop as the child begins to trust and communicate with the caregiver. Sometimes after I have spent significant time in the home I become part of their family. I enjoy attending all of their school dances, awards programs, job programs and Special Olympics. One of my fondest memories is when five of my clients go to meet each other. Some of my clients have spent time with my family and friends. Meeting the child's goals are a team effort including parents, caregivers, teachers, therapists, doctors, and case workers. My goal is to work with individuals who are deaf or hearing impaired.
Related Hobbies and Interests
I was involved in a special needs ministry at church. I worked at Indian Trails Camp for physical disabilities and a deaf camp in Indiana. I volunteered at South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. I go the Deaf Cafe every month.
