As stated in my babysitting profile, I have had plenty of experience caring for special-needs kids and teens from ages 7 to 18! My employment at 3 summer camps with this focus has presented me with many opportunities to mentor children with a wide range of needs including those with Aspergers, down's syndrome, autism, depth-perception problems, and many more on a sliding scale.

I was able to help these special kiddo's integrate into regular camp life and achieve goals they might never had imagined! For example, at my camp last summer we had twin girls who had a severe social phobia. By the end of the 10 days we were together (out in the California wilderness!) they were able to socialize easily with the other 6 campers. Setting goals and realistic steps to achieve them is so important in building confidence.

I have also provided much in-home nanny care for a child with aspergers.

I am currently pursuing a career in Speech Therapy and hope one day to work in a clinic that specializes to these types of children and teens!
