I was a nanny for a little over 2 years, of a little boy who suffered from autism. I took care of him almost everyday since he was 10 months old, watching him grow up and not being able to develop his language. It used break my heart to see him want to speak out and communicate, but he couldn't. He used to get so frustrated at times, but he was such a smart kid. He would at times not like me to get close to him and play with him; he would push me away. I would always give him space, but just because he acted like he didn't want me to entertain him and make him company, didn't really mean he meant it. He was just like any other kid, and I know how children want someone to play with them and make them laugh, so I would never give up on him. By the end he would love it when I got there, and he would try and communicate with me, holding my hand and asking me to play with him. I would always try and communicate with him asking him to sound out words, and he would always try. I was amazing to me see him improve so much and start developing his communication skills. I felt proud to have been apart of helping this wonderful child, develop and get better.
