I have experience as a K-5 Learning Specialist/ELL Teacher/Case Manager. This includes:
*Plan and create guided reading plus activities while collaborating with the literacy coach, classroom teachers, and learning specialists
*Provide sensory integration breaks to students with IEP's and within Tier III of the RTI process
*Incorporate word work into guided reading plus along with multi sensory and tactile manipulatives including sand trays, magnetic letters, bumpy boards, and gel boards to name a few
*Implement and modify curriculum for students with IEP's
*Vigorously take part in a push-in model of instruction
*Proactively collaborate with classroom teachers, student service professionals, and parents to meet the needs of students by meeting often and continuously keeping the lines of communication open
*Actively participate in the Response to Intervention (RTI) Process and help teachers establish goals for students- work with students in Tiers II and III of the RTI process
*Progress monitor students using informal and form assessments for reading, writing, and math utilizing the Aims Web MAZE and CBM assessments
*Assess students utilizing the Fountas and Pinnell reading/writing benchmarking system
*Teach direct- instruction math focusing on Touch Math and the comprehensive Everyday Math Curriculum

*Taught direct-instruction writing and guided reading, and co-taught integrated math

I was a 5th Grade Learning Specialist/Case manager and in this position I:
*Worked in a self-contained environment with profound cognitively delayed students
*Taught modified guided reading, shared reading, spelling, phonics first, writing, and basic life skills

As a Middle School Paraprofessional I:
*One-on-one aid for a mentally and physically challenged student
*Held accountable for safety and well being of student, trained in efficient response to seizures
*Provided exercises for fine motor and gross motor skills
*Modified curriculum and provided life skill curriculum based activities

I was previously a Camp Counselor and in this position I:
*Lived with 7th-9th grade handicapped students with multiple disabilities including: Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Seizure Disorders, and students with non-verbal communication skills
*Lead girls through daily life skill practice as well as personal hygiene activities


Personal Experience:
*I grew up with a high functioning Autistic brother and throughout the challenges we've faced as a family, I've learned and gained perspective of the overall realm of special education. He has inspired me to learn more about special education and my compassion for these students. I truly believe that regardless of students' disabilities, they can reach their own individual potentials. Teaching and working with special needs children is the best fit for me.
