My sister was born with cerebral palsy so I have had 17 years of experience working with someone with a severe disability. I also worked at a school for children with special needs for four years dealing with children of all kinds of physical disabilities. I have experience with tracheal tubes and G-tubes. I'm trained in the proper way of lifting a child or adult and also have experience with different types of lifts. many people feel that because children cannot walk or talk they are living vegetables. That is simply not true. Each and every child knows what is going on around them though they may not be able to express it. They have very distinct personalities and their own thoughts and feelings. I think it is important to treat them as real people because they are. There are always ways to adapt an activity to make it work for anyone.
