For the last six years, I have taught special education for Denver Public Schools. I spent two years as the teacher for a classroom of students with Autism, and four as a teacher for children with mild to moderate disabilities, including learning disabilities, AD/HD, emotional challenges, developmental disabilities, and physical disabilities. Prior to moving to Denver, I attended Syracuse University where I obtained dual degrees in elementary and special education. I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, where I worked for two summers at Camp Munroe, a summer day camp for children and young adults with disabilities. I am hoping to return to school to obtain my master's degree in social work, and would like to tutor or care for children with special needs while I complete my studies. I am a trained Wilson Reading System teacher, and use a multi-sensory based methods to teach reading. I am also trained in TouchMath, Everyday Mathematics, Guided Reading, the TEACCH method, and a variety of other reading and math interventions. I love helping struggling learners reach their potential, and have had great success teaching children with learning challenges to read, write, and do math.
